These vehicles first entered service with London Transport between 1986 and 1987. All except D141 FYM (Blackburn No.41 (81)) which was allocated to Norwood depot, went into service from Plumstead depot.

After being withdrawn and sold to Ensign Bus (Purfleet), they were purchased by Blackburn Transport and put into service in October 2000. D141 FYM (Blackburn No. 41 (81)) received a special gold livery to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

No.30, which had been convertd to single door prior to arrical at Blackburn, was the last ECW bodied vehicle manufactured.

In late July 2004 five further vehicles arrived and were numbered 76-81, entering service in September. These vehicles were painted in the new 'schools contract' livery. On August 1st 2004 No.'s 41-45 were re-numbered 81-85
